Butt Litter Australia: Partnership Funding

Supporting on-the-ground butt litter reduction projects through funding is an important aspect of Butt Free Australia's activities.

Since inception in 2003, Butt Free Australia has invested $2.42 million in butt litter management projects. Partners in state and local governments, industry, businesses and environmental organisations have contributed a further $2.16 million in cash and resources.

A significant number of butt litter management projects were initially funded through an annual grants process. Butt Free Australia now looks to support fewer but larger projects with major partners in locations where the worst butt litter is being generated. We recognised that a focus on butt litter ‘hotspots' around Australia – primarily hospitality, transport, large cities and events – would be more benefical.

We are reaching larger audiences and more effectively using our available funds.

Partnership opportunities

While Butt Free Australia's annual grants application process no longer applies, we welcome every opportunity to explore partnership possibilities with organisations considering campaigns to address butt litter in hotspots or emerging problem areas.

Resources

Butt Free Australia's resources are made freely available to support local campaigns and build capacity to deal with cigarette butt litter. Our Butt FREE Toolkit is an essential resource for anyone interested in the problem and its solution.

Our national awareness campaign delivers a clear and simple message - 'Butt Littering: It's not a Good Look' through a range of resources.

We can also help with advice and support on:

  • Project design and delivery
  • Building stakeholder involvement
  • Communications and promotions
  • Production of resources
  • Project evaluation methodology
  • Project reporting
