Infrastructure such as gross pollutant traps (GPTs) are known as 'end of pipe' solutions. They can be expensive to install and maintain, but they stop litter – including butts – from entering waterways through the storm water system.

World Wide Environmental Solutions (WWES) – Storm Water Drain Litter Trap
The Enviro Litter Strainer removes pollutants and rubbish from storm water before it flows into drains and subsequently into waterways. The Strainer holds all rubbish above the water line to prevent any pollution leaching into the drains. There is an inbuilt water overflow system that prevents any flooding of the drain.
