Cigarette butt litterers and their excuses are being targeted in a national campaign by Butt Free Australia to encourage personal responsibility to dispose of cigarette butts correctly. Butt FREE City Week 2010 launches across Australia today with the message: Butt littering, it’s not a good look.

Butt Free Australia launches 'Not a Good Look'

Butt Free Australia launches a national awareness campaign today, designed to change butt littering behaviour and reduce the environmental problems caused by cigarette butt litter.

The innovative 'Not a Good Look' campaign depicts butt litterers – real people - being photographed in the act of littering, as if caught by a CCTV network. It will use a combination of billboard and hospitality venue advertising, and community service announcements.

Butt Free Australia - a new approach to butt littering

Just who is littering their butts….and why?  That’s the question that the Butt Littering Trust set out to answer in a major piece of behavioural research undertaken to coincide with its re-branding as Butt Free Australia.

Currently, nearly one in two of all items found in the litter stream are cigarette butts (according the Keep Australia Beautiful National Litter Index) and the research ‘Understanding attitudes & behaviour behind cigarette butt littering’ was commissioned to help Butt Free Australia reduce this number.
