Media release: 9 November 2011
Butt Free Australia, as trustee for Butt Littering Trust, has announced KESAB environmental solutions as the successful recipient of its inventory of assets following an Expression of Interest process to secure a likeminded organisation to continue the task of reducing butt littering nationally.
The Expression of Interest process was initiated by Butt Free Australia following a decision to wind-up the Butt Littering Trust after British American Tobacco Australia (BAT Australia) advised that they were not in a position to provide financial support to the Trust beyond the end of 2011.
Announcing the decision, the Chair of Butt Free Australia Mr Ian Coles said “While obviously we were disappointed with the decision by BAT Australia, our priority turned to ensuring that the extensive body of knowledge and expertise that has been developed since the Trust was developed in 2003 was not lost.
Many successful partnership projects have been supported and documented and substantial research commissioned and utilised; a comprehensive Butt FREE toolkit has been developed and the brand well established. Importantly there has been widespread acceptance and success of the ‘Not a Good Look’ campaign since its launch in early 2010” Mr Coles said.
Along with the decision to transfer the inventory of assets including the websites www.buttfree.org.au and www.notagoodlook.com.au, associated intellectual property, campaign resources and a monetary contribution to support initial activity, Butt Free Australia expressed their confidence in KESAB’s ability to deliver outcomes, value-add and engage other stakeholders nationally.
“KESAB environmental solutions has an impressive record in the butt litter and butt littering area , is a long-standing partner of Butt Free Australia and is arguably one of, if not, the most senior and experienced anti-litter organisations in Australia.” Mr Coles added.
On behalf of KESAB environmental solutions, Executive Director Mr John Phillips OAM said “We believe that KESAB has the skills, knowledge, understanding and credentials to deliver throughout Australia and engage a wide range of stakeholders, thus ensuring a legacy for the Butt Littering Trust. We thank Butt Free Australia for putting their confidence in KESAB”.
Following the transfer of the assets to KESAB over the coming month, the Butt Littering Trust will be officially wound-up and the corporate trustee, Butt Free Australia, will be voluntarily liquidated.
