KESAB Announced to Carry on Legacy

Butt Free Australia, as trustee for Butt Littering Trust, has announced KESAB environmental solutions as the successful recipient of its inventory of assets following an Expression of Interest process to secure a likeminded organisation to continue the task of reducing butt littering nationally.
The Expression of Interest process was initiated by Butt Free Australia following a decision to wind-up the Butt Littering Trust after British American Tobacco Australia (BAT Australia) advised that they were not in a position to provide financial support to the Trust beyond the end of 2011.
Following the transfer of the assets to KESAB environmental solutions over the coming month, the Butt Littering Trust will be officially wound-up and the corporate trustee, Butt Free Australia, will be voluntarily liquidated.

Not a Good Look Drives Sydney

If you have been around Sydney in the past month there is every chance you will have seen the ‘Not a Good Look’ message driving around Sydney.
On the back of 150 taxis that move around the CBD and surrounds every day and night, there are three messages that remind Sydneysiders and visitors alike that butt littering is not a good look - 15,000 plus butts end up on Sydney’s streets every day; the rain carries butts through drains and into Sydney Harbour and butt litter impacts on places where they work, live and play.
So remember ‘PLEASE BUTT IT, THEN BIN IT’® for a Butt FREE Sydney.

A Kick in the Butt

“I float above the ocean on my surfboard. It's calm out here, pure and clean. As my hand dangles in the water it touches something soft. I look down. There are cigarette butts floating on the surface, swollen and stained brown. I sit up on the board, afraid to have my face near the polluted water....”
So begins Johanna Grahn’s article about butts, their impact on the environment and two great local initiatives.
The 'Eco Divers' that operate in the Northern Habour area of Sydney and along the Northern Beaches are saving the planet....one fish at a time while the ‘Two Hands’ project encourages people to devote thirty minutes to picking up litter in their favourite place.

Butt Free Australia - Announcement

Butt Free Australia, as trustee of Butt Littering Trust, has announced that the Trust will cease operation from 30 November 2011.
The decision was made by the Directors on 16 September 2011, following advice from British American Tobacco Australia (BAT Australia) that they are not in a position to continue financial support of the Trust beyond the end of this year.
BAT Australia funded the establishment of the independent Trust in 2003 for the principal purpose of reducing cigarette butt litter and butt littering in Australia. It remains the major funder.
In making the announcement, Chair Ian Coles said ‘Obviously we are disappointed with the decision, particularly given the many successful partnership projects we have supported over the years, and in particular the wide spread acceptance and success of our Not a Good Look campaign since its launch in early 2010.
Butt littering remains a significant environmental issue and cost to the community. We are keen to pass on the valuable knowledge and expertise that the Trust has developed to continue the task of reducing butt littering nationally. To that end we will seek expressions of interest from like-minded organisations who may be interested in exploring this further with us.’ Mr Coles said.
